FISHING BAIT CURE INSTRUCTIONS: SALMON & STEELHEAD EGGS

MR SHUR-CURE "ORIGINAL" SHAKER

Fishing Bait Cure Directions: SHUR-CURE ORIGINAL

  1. Remove all blood from skeins iwth a paper towel.  DO NOT WASH EGGS WITH WATER
  2. Cut skeins into bait size pieces.  If curing whole skeins, cut in half length wise or pierce/slice membrane adequately to allow cure into egg sack.
  3. Coat eggs with a moderate amount of SHUR-CURE, rolling the baits in the cure powder, making sure all baits are coated well.
  4. Place coated baits into a glass or plastic container to allow curing juices to form.  During the first hour (check baits frequently as the water content can vary drastically), toss/turn the baits in the juices to make certain all baits get juice penetration.  Allow an additional hour (if necessary) more of juicing time (2 hours total).
  5. After 2 hours juicing, place the baits in a plastic colander and drain for 30 to 45 minutes.  If curing multiple pounds, baits can also be laid out on clean, white paper towels.  NOTE: avoid newspaper as it contains dyes & chemicals that can alter your baits.
  6. After draining/air drying, place the baits into a plastic zip lock style bag an let sit at room temperature for 12 hours or overnight to finish curing.

You are now armed with the "Fish Catchingest" bait in the Universe!!

Storage for SHUR-CURED Salmon and Steelhead Roe: SHUR-CURED baits may be stored under refrigeration for 3 months, or in a freezer for up to 2 years.  vacuum packaging will extend the shelf life of cured roe.

HELPFUL HINTS:

Start the egg curing process as soon as possible after removal from fish.

Keep uncured roe cool and out of direct sunlight or water.

Bleed the fish immediately after killing by cutting gills or tail.... you not only have better eggs/roe for bait, but more importantly, you will have much improved eating quality of the fish itself.
